The Seniors' Section at Brighton & Hove is open to all club members aged 55 and over. We offer competitive and recreational golf and are pleased to welcome golfers of all abilities. We are essentially a social and jovial gathering of like-minded golfers.
The usual format is a weekly 9-Hole Stableford competition played on Friday mornings with an entry fee of £2.50 plus 50p for the Two's pot. The prizes are first, second and third place and are in the form of money on account in the Pro Shop.
Additionally there are 20 trophy competitions played through out the year. These are a mixture of 9, 13 and 18 holes and are open to all members of the Seniors' section. The trophies are predominantly in memory of past members of the Seniors' Section. The winner’s name is engraved on the trophy and added to the appropriate honours board. These competitions include a summer and winter knockout in both singles and foursomes format. For a colourful round-up of the Trophy Presentation Day and Lunch held in October 2023 please click here.
An added benefit is the opportunity to play for the club in matches against other local clubs. There are currently home and away matches against the Seniors’ Section of nine other golf clubs. The format is six teams playing Four Ball Match Play. These matches are played in the morning and followed by lunch. The cost for players is limited to lunch and beverages. These matches are played with friendly good humour with the only prize being prestige and “bragging rights”.
We hold a Seniors' Open in August which is usually over-subscribed. There are prizes for the teams from other clubs as well as for the club members that participate. In 2024 the Seniors' Open is on Friday 2nd August. Please click here for more information and the entry form.
Social events include Seniors' Captain’s Day lunch, Gala Christmas Lunch, the Invitation to the Ladies and a morning of free coffee, Mulled Wine and Mince Pies prior to Christmas.
As you can see there is a lot going on. Up-to-date information can be found on the Seniors' notice board at the entrance to the Men’s changing room.
All eligible club members are invited to join us, just make yourself known to a committee member and or give your email details to the Seniors' Secretary. You are assured of a warm welcome, please contact the Seniors' Secretary (john.edwards1051@gmail.com) who will be more than happy to arrange a game or two for you to get to know other members of the section.
Remember that being a Senior does not preclude you from entering all of the other club competitions or from applying to play for any of the club teams.
